How We Can Help You with Estate Planning

We help an individual plan for how they want their assets to be preserved, managed, and distributed after death. These assets not only include real property, but also stocks, artwork, life insurance, pensions, and financial obligations. Estate plans are very important, but often overlooked. Everyone should have an Estate Plan regardless of how many assets they have. While we have helped clients without estate plans win in probate court, the process can become lengthy, expensive, and difficult on loved ones. It is much better for our clients to manage their assets according to their wishes than to have them distributed after difficult and trying court proceedings.

Our strategy with Estate Planning focuses on three areas:

  1. Giving You Control of Your Wealth. We can plan your estate precisely so you can control when and to whom distributions may be made. You may also set up a revocable trust so that the trust assets remain accessible to you during your lifetime while designating to whom the remaining assets will pass thereafter, even when there are complex situations such as children from more than one marriage.
  2. Protecting Your Legacy. We can help you protect your estate from your heirs’ creditors or from beneficiaries who may not be adept at money management. We can also help protect from those who would not use your estate in a manner you believe appropriate.
  3. Providing You Privacy and Probate Savings. Probate is a matter of public record. Creating a proper estate plan may allow assets to pass outside of probate and remain private, in addition to possibly reducing the amount lost to court fees and taxes in the process.
